~The Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Me~

• The band settled on their present name after two previous incarnations: Mr. Wiggles and Big Yank. (Thank goodness...)
• The band often had to use politically correct verisons of their name in order to play gigs. For example, they were "C. P. Daddies," "Bad Daddies," "Merry Poppin' Daddies" (during the holidays), "Cherry Po in' Daddies," and hilariously enough, "Cherry $%#&!*@ Daddies."

• During their early gigs, their stage acts were more theatrical.
• Steve once came on in nothing but a diaper and poured chocolate syrup over himself.
• Another time he smashed velvet paintings with a hammer.
• Another time they even performed "Up From the Gutter" with a choreographed dancing troupe. During another performance of this song, Steve was carried out on stage dressed as Jesus and tied to a full-sized cross.
• Another time, Steve was featured backlit behind a sheet. While the theme from "2001" played, Steve manipulated a 4-foot-long fiberglass pickle...but from the audience's point of view, it didn't look like a pickle....

• The Dildorado, or Dildozer, Moto-Penis, or Dick Car, used to shoot sequins, confetti, and condoms, or "salvos of genetic material" (STEVE'S WORDS, NOT MINE) into the audience. Click here for the story.
• The original working title for Ferociously Stoned was The Enemy Within.

• On the back of the album Ferociously Stoned, the band members are as follows:
• Brooks Brown (polka-dot pants)
• James Phillips (holding surfboard)
• Dan Schmid (arms outstretched)
• Chris Azorr (Elvis Guy)
• James Fohl (Leopard Skin Guy)
• Dana Heitman (Biker Dude) [he's holding a shotgun between his legs, by the way...DON'T LOOK AT ME, THAT'S WHAT HE SAID]
• Brian West (Goggle Man)
• Steve Perry (clown wig and pink fuzzy pants)

• In the song "The Search" on the album Rapid City Muscle Car, the line "Me and Joe were drivin' in his rusty van" refers to Steve's buddy Joe Brooks, drummer for the Varicoasters.
• The song "Say it to My Face" on the album Kids on the Street is about watching t.v. with your dad.
• Also, at the very end of "Say it to My Face," somebody screams, "WHAT?!"
• Steve recorded the vocals to "Zoot Suit Riot" in one take. His comment, "I think I'm about ready to sing it," was left in for the hell of it.
• After the song "No Mercy for Swine," somebody says, quite vehemently, "Shit!"
• Dan Schmid is allergic to certain foods, so be careful if you offer him anything to eat.
• However, Dan likes potato chips and chocolate. He used to work in a chocolate factory while Steve gutted squid in a Greek restaurant. (I doubt Steve likes squid.)
• During Dan's brief departure from the Daddies, he played drums for a local swing band called "Ching Ching Swing" (ouch).
• Dan has two tattoos. On his right arm is a moose. On his left is a woman.
• Ian Early got married to his longtime sweetheart on December 21, 1998.
• The Daddies (most of them, anyway) prefer boxers to briefs.
• The original, proposed cover for the album Rapid City Muscle Car was a photo of Steve, Dan, and Jason lying on a beach. Its title was 98 Lb. Weekend.

• "Hi and Lo" was originally written for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Bosstones singer Dicky Barret encouraged the Daddies to go on when they hit a low point. He also told Steve and the band to dress the hell UP.

• In 1998, the Daddies turned down an offer to record the "New Love Boat" theme song.

• Dana Heitman became a daddy on November 25, 1999, with the birth of his son Benjamin Conrad.

• Flovilla Thatch is the name of a character in a Russ Meyer film.

• Sleazy P. Martini is the stage name of metal band Gwar's former manager. (Steve claimed to be a Gwar fan...)

• "Behind the Green Door" - the lyric in "Teenage Brainsurgeon" - is the title of a porno movie.

• An animated music video for "Teenage Brainsurgeon" was in the works prior to the release of the first album, but was abandoned for lack of funds.

• The chicken on a leash that Dan is walking on the first cover of Rapid City Muscle Car...is still alive to this day...so far.
